There are very few movies in Bollywood that despite having a sensitive topic makes its way to a different level of success. Padman was one such movie that had a sensitive topic but was made with sheer excellence and elegance. The movie was based on menstrual hygiene and was based on the struggle of a common man trying to aware people about the same. Where on one side, the entire nation was excited about the release of the movie; on the other hand, Pakistan took an extreme step of putting a ban on the movie.
Considering the positive side of the movie which was trying to aware the people of the nation towards a matter that is not openly talked about, many people were confused on the action taken by Pakistan. To clear the air and to make people aware of the reason behind the ban, here is some of the related information.
The reason behind the ban:
According to the member of the Federal Censor Board, Ishaq Ahmad, the movie was against the traditions, custom, and culture of Pakistan. The decision was taken even before watching the preview of the movie by the members of the censor boards. This further raised many questions about the effectiveness of the censor board’s decision.
Many film distributors also faced much criticism by the people and the managing committees for purchasing an Indian film that is against the Islamic tradition, culture, customs, and history. Many even claimed that the movie is running the culture of Islam by portraying such a subject openly.
What went against the movie?
Amidst the controversies surrounding the movie, the major surprising element came when the members of the Censor board refuses even to watch the movie. According to one of the sources of the committee, none of the members of the committee was comfortable to watch the movie because of the content that it contained. Many Pakistani socialist were supporting the ban as they were totally against such a movie that had such topic and storyline.
Padman is not the first Indian movie that has been banned in Pakistan. There were a number of movies in the past that had undergone the same situation. Tiger Zinda Hai, Tere Bin Laden, Ek Tha Tiger, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, NaamShabana, etc. are some of the movies that faced the same issue and were ban to be released in Pakistan.
What could have worked in movie’s favour?
The film could have received some other reviews if the Censor Board members would have watched the film once. As the world requires such movies that can break the taboos and can aware the society about the present conditions, such movies are a must.

Not only did the movie faced some loss due to the non-release in Pakistan, the people of Pakistan were also shocked and disappointed with the ban. Nevertheless, it is expected that someday movies like Padman will get the required and the relevant recognition by the entire world.
